CURRENT MESSAGE SERIES:

Book of Esther

The book of Esther is an amazing true story of God’s redeeming work for His people. The story is a picture of the Gospel. It shows us the power and consequence of sin, the danger of pride, the call to follow God courageously, and the victory that we experience in faith. It brings together lessons for daily living with the greater truth of God’s plan. Together we will explore this timeless tale and unpack its truth to embrace the impact of faith on our daily choices, relationships, and actions.

April 27—The Consequence of Reckless Decisions

Esther 1:10—2:4

It is easy to make a reckless decision. In the face of disappointment or temptation, we can react quickly rather than respond thoughtfully. A reckless and reactive decision rarely brings a good outcome. We hurt ourselves and those around us, and we cannot undo what has been done. We trust in God’s forgiveness and redemption for those who seek His help, but we may not be able to avoid the consequences that come now.

May 4— Rise and Fall

Esther 3:1-13; 5:9-14; 6:1-14

One of the major themes in the story of Esther is the problem of pride. We encounter two different people going in two different directions. Haman, who wants to be elevated finds himself being brought low. Mordecai, who is willing to live sacrificially for the sake of truth, finds himself being elevated. Exploring the story, we hear echoes of Jesus who invites us to follow Him with a willingness to lose our lives in this world so that we may find it for eternity.

May 11— For Such a Time as This

Esther 4:4-17; 7:1-10

“For such a time as this.” This powerful and memorable line is a focal point in the story of Esther. It reminds us that God has a plan, that we are invited into His plan, and that His plan is ultimately good. Life may seem threatening, out of control, and desperate. In these moments, it is especially important to lean into the power and goodness of God. We can courageously move forward in faithful obedience knowing that our hope lies with our loving God rather than any authority in this world.

May 18—God’s Deliverance

Esther 8:1-12; 9:1-5

God is a deliverer. As He did in the past, God delivers the Jewish people from destruction. As such, God shows His faithful love for His people. While this is a vitally important event in the history of Israel, it is also a picture of God’s faithful love for all people who call out to Him in faith. Just as God delivered the people through the courageous and faithful act of Esther, God delivers us through the faithful and courageous act of Jesus Christ. Esther pleaded with behalf of Israel with the King of Persia. Jesus interceded on our behalf with God the Father. We know that God is faithful and we know that He will continue to deliver His people as we turn to Him.
